The Unity Grid occupies the upper part of Spread 003. Beneath it, on white, Siddi declares: I make L O V E to & thru Mi ART. The movement from image to sentence brings the field of UNITY into the experience of the person creating within it. Her words describe how that connection feels in a Human Body & how it becomes ART.
In her writing from 2018, Siddi called it “making love to my art” & said she was beginning a project about “how my art literally saved me from me”. Another line gathers the force of both thoughts: “WHAT I LOVE SAVED ME FROM ME”. She was writing through one of the hardest periods of her life, yet the relationship she described had begun long before. The words arrived as she found a way to speak about a connection she had felt since childhood.
When she was little, creating brought joy & a sense of belonging to the whole of life. The feeling continued through high school. If she spent a long time away from art, picking up a pencil, ink or a brush could bring it rushing back: an immediate, profound intimacy with what she was making & with existence around her. Its mood changed. Sometimes it came with serenity, tranquility, ease & calm; sometimes in waves of euphoria & ecstasy, glistening, glimmering, shining at different intensities. At its most powerful, she describes an undercurrent that feels like continuous peaking. She could stay in it for hours, through creation alone. She began finding words for this state & towards her final university years, she entitled one of her projects Liquid Euphoria, after the ecstatic state she experienced creating it. The name holds the sensation of something luminous & fluid moving through her.
She also describes a sadhi state: a melting of the boundary between herself & what she meets, whether a tree, an artwork or the greater field of frequency. She has felt herself melt into existence while remaining the one holding the brush. L O V E carries that sensual, intimate experience of union. It is a pure connection with the creative source, felt in the body as life arrives, moves & becomes available for expression. Her declaration that she was married to her ART. speaks to the depth of that relationship.
In MAOP—MYARTONPAPER—the relationship became an imprint. Siddi pressed her painted body into paper, leaving a mirrored anthropometric trace where skin, paint & surface met. The artwork held the contact between herself & Mi ART.; in her words, paint became the tie between them, the imprint a product of their L O V E. Later, a distinct body imprint became the source artwork for Ouí. In L O V E making, hands, lips & feet left other traces of play, tenderness & grounding. Across these works, her body participates in the encounter & the material carries something of its feeling outward.
To describes her closeness with ART.: the attention, touch & surrender of making L O V E to it. Thru describes a current coming from the creative source, moving through her as an artist & becoming material through her hands. “It’s life moving through you. It’s the creative current. It’s the creative wave.” She also calls it a creative frequency: the life of the source taking form in the work. The resulting artwork is where a felt state becomes something another person can meet. In Siddi’s understanding, L O V E is the transmission of GOD through creation. Her individuality remains present within that UNITY; she is one with, of & an expression of the source while making something only she can make.
When Siddi says her ART. saved her, she means, in her own words, that “Mi ART. reconnected me to myself, to my life, to life, to my creative source.” It helped her transmute what was consuming her & “rewired me to be self-regenerative.” She had set herself a larger inquiry into disconnection from life, self & creative source: “how it feels, how it behaves,” & how a Human Being might find an antidote. ART. is the way she lives that inquiry and shares what she discovers. The Grid above the sentence holds UNITY as a field. I make L O V E to & thru Mi ART. tells us how she receives its current, brings it into matter & offers it to the world.
